Quick answer

To beat the Jelly King in Gummy Mob, arrive at the end of level 10 with the biggest crowd you can, watch which colour the King is when it lands, and keep holding to fire until both the castle and the King are gone. Matching bears hit 3 times harder, so switch to the King's colour if a gate offers it. If it reaches your launcher, you can retry, upgrade or continue once.

Level 10 is the first time Gummy Mob puts something between you and the candy castle. Up to now the end of a level was simple: stop, fire, crush. On a boss level a huge jelly cube drops onto the road, and the level only counts as cleared when it is gone too.

The good news is that the Jelly King follows clear rules. Once you know them, the fight feels fair, and the same plan works every time the King comes back. This guide covers how to beat the Jelly King step by step, with what the game actually does at each moment.

Where and when you meet the Jelly King

Every 10th level in Gummy Mob is a BOSS level, and the bosses take turns:

  • Levels 10, 30, 50 and so on: the Jelly King, a giant jelly cube.
  • Levels 20, 40, 60 and so on: the Mega Worm, a long boss worm that moves faster.

You can see the boss stops coming on the Candy Road map, and the top bar says BOSS while you play one. The level before a boss is a normal one, and level 5 is a HARD level, so by level 10 you have already met tougher castles, jelly blobs thrown from the castle and sour lemons.

The road plays like any other level: gates, jelly cubes, hoppers, gummy worms and power-ups. The King only appears at the very end.

How the boss fight works

When your launcher rolls to its stopping point near the castle, the screen shakes, the word JELLY KING! pops up and the King drops onto the road in front of the castle. A red health bar with its name appears at the top of the screen.

A So close card after a lost level: 1 block left, 93 percent of the castle broken, knocked out by a Jelly Tank, with Continue and Try again buttons
If something reaches your launcher, the card shows how close you were and what knocked you out.

Here is what to expect once it lands:

  • It comes towards you. The King hops slowly down the road, swaying from side to side. Every landing gives a little thud.
  • It has its own colour. The King is one of the level's colours, but never the colour your crowd started the level with.
  • It ends the run if it reaches you. Like any enemy, if the King gets all the way to your launcher, the level is lost.
  • You need two wins in one. The level is cleared only when every castle block is down and the King is defeated.

There is some help built in. On boss levels before level 22 the castle is a bit smaller than usual, because the King is the real fight. And between your stopping point and the castle there is always one last pair of gates: a x2 gate and a colour gate that offers the colour the castle needs most.

A step-by-step plan for the Jelly King

You do not need perfect play. You need a big crowd at the end and a steady finger.

  1. Grow the crowd on the way. Take x2 gates when your crowd is already big and large +N gates when it is small, and stay away from halving and minus gates. A bigger stream at the end means more bears to throw at the King.
  2. Grab late power-ups. A star makes your bears giant for a few seconds, and rainbow makes every colour match for a few seconds. They start as soon as you roll over them, so one close to the end of the road is worth steering for.
  3. Read the King's colour when it lands. Before you choose the last gate, look at the cube. In the screenshot at the top of this page, the King is green while the last colour gate offers RED for the castle.
  4. Pick the last gate with a quick sum. If the King is still far away, doubling your stream with x2 usually helps most. If the colour gate happens to match the King, matching bears hit 3 times harder, so that side is worth taking.
  5. Keep holding to fire. Do not let go while the King is coming. Bears also hit harder right in front of your launcher, so a King that gets close is taking bigger hits too.
  6. Finish the castle. Once the King is down you will see BOSS DOWN! and coins fly. The last couple of castle blocks are cracked and break faster, so keep firing until everything falls.
Colour still counts after the King falls. If the colour gate matches most of the castle, switching after the boss is down helps you break the blocks faster. Our colour gates guide explains the 3 times rule in detail.

Upgrades and boosts that help

If the King keeps winning, the fix is usually outside the level.

Upgrades. Between levels you can spend coins in the Upgrades card on start crowd, fire rate and bear power. Start crowd gives you more bears from the first second, fire rate makes your launcher fire faster, and bear power makes every bear hit harder. Fire rate and bear power both matter a lot in a boss fight, because the end of the level is all about how much damage you push out before the King arrives.

Boosts. Before a level you can pick boosts. They behave differently, and that matters for a boss:

  • Start GIANT and Rainbow start last a few seconds at the start of the level, so they help you grow the crowd early but are gone before the King lands.
  • +20 percent crowd gives you more bears from the start, and those bears stay with you all the way down the road.
  • Lucky box makes every mystery box on the road good, which can mean giant bears, rainbow or extra bears.

For the Jelly King, +20 percent crowd and Lucky box tend to be the more useful picks. For more ways to grow your crowd on the road, see our crowd runner tips.

What to do if the King reaches you

Losing on level 10 is normal the first time. The game shows a card with how much of the castle you broke and what knocked you out, and gives you three ways forward:

  1. Try again straight away. The gates and enemies on the road change with each attempt, so a better set may come up.
  2. Go back and upgrade first. A loss still earns you some coins. Put them into fire rate or bear power and come back.
  3. Continue with an optional video. This is allowed once per level. The King gets pushed back up the road, your crowd gets a short shield and 30 extra bears, and you carry on. A level cleared after a continue gives 1 star instead of more.

Whichever you choose, the reward is worth it. A boss level pays the biggest level reward of its block of ten, and the very next level is a BONUS gummy rain level with no enemies at all, just bears falling from the sky and coins to collect.

FAQ

What level is the Jelly King in Gummy Mob?

The Jelly King is the boss on level 10. It comes back on levels 30, 50 and every 20 levels after that. The boss levels in between, like 20 and 40, have the Mega Worm.

Why do my bears do so little damage to the Jelly King?

Most likely your crowd is a different colour from the King. Bears that match the colour of what they hit deal 3 times the damage. Rainbow makes every colour match, and a star makes bears giant, so both help a lot if you have them when the King lands.

Do I have to defeat the King to clear the level?

Yes. On a boss level you must knock down every castle block and defeat the boss. Breaking the whole castle while the King is still hopping is not enough.

Which boost is best for the Jelly King?

Start GIANT and Rainbow start wear off after a few seconds at the start of the level, so they are gone by the time the King lands. The +20 percent crowd boost and the Lucky box boost help for longer, because they give you more bears and better mystery boxes along the way.

What comes after the Jelly King?

Level 11 is a BONUS level. It is a gummy rain with no enemies, so you can relax and collect coins before the normal levels start again.
