Quick answer

To grow a bigger crowd in a crowd runner like Gummy Mob, steer the whole stream into one gate, compare what each gate gives against your current crowd, grab power-ups like giant and rainbow, and avoid traps such as sour lemons and ice. Spend your coins on upgrades between levels, and save boosts for HARD and boss levels.

Crowd runners look simple: hold, steer, pick a gate. But two players on the same level can reach the castle with very different crowds. The difference is a handful of habits that are easy to learn.

These crowd runner tips come from how Gummy Mob actually works. Most of them also help in other crowd runner games, so they are worth knowing even if you play something else.

Tips for the gates

Gates are where crowds are won and lost. Gummy Mob gates either multiply (x2), add (+N), halve (½) or subtract (−N), and colour gates switch your crowd's colour.

  1. Steer the whole stream into one gate. Bears pass gates one by one, so a stream that drifts across the middle wastes half of a good gate. Commit early and drag firmly.
  2. Do the quick sum. A x2 gate is great with a big crowd, but with a small crowd a large +N gate can give you more bears. Ask which gate gives the bigger number right now.
  3. Never "split the difference" with a trap. If one side is a halving or minus gate, go fully to the other side, even if it is a small gain.
  4. Plan your colour once. Look at the castle at the start, choose the colour that matches most of it, and use number gates the rest of the way. Our colour gates guide explains why matching bears hit 3 times harder.

Later levels add flip gates, where good and bad sides swap on a timer. Watch the gate for a moment before you commit.

Tips for power-ups and traps

The road is full of things to roll over. Some help a lot, some hurt.

  1. Grab giant and rainbow, then hit something big. A star turns your bears giant for a few seconds and makes them hit much harder. Rainbow makes every colour match. Both are wasted on an empty road, so time them for an enemy or the castle.
  2. Steer around sour lemons and ice. A sour lemon makes your bears tiny and weak for a moment, and ice slows how fast you fire. The toothbrush, which appears from later levels, sweeps across the road and scrubs bears away.

Mystery boxes are a gamble: good or bad, there is only one way to find out. If you start a level with the Lucky box boost, every mystery box is good, so roll over all of them.

Tips for coins and upgrades

Between levels you spend coins in the Upgrades card. There are three upgrades:

  • Start crowd adds bears at the start of every level.
  • Fire rate makes your launcher fire bears faster.
  • Bear power makes every bear hit harder.
  1. Upgrade a little after every win. Each upgrade costs a bit more than the last, so small, regular upgrades keep up with the levels better than saving for a big one. If one upgrade is far behind the others, bring it up first.

You also earn coins from the level reward, the coin trails on the road and the castle blocks. HARD levels (every 5th level) pay more, and the BONUS level after every boss is a gummy rain with no enemies, just coins. On the Candy Road map you can see the HARD, BONUS and boss stops coming.

Tips for the castle

Every level ends at a candy castle. Your crowd charges it and knocks it down block by block.

  1. Arrive with the right colour. Matching castle blocks break 3 times faster. A smaller matching crowd often beats a bigger mismatched one.
  2. Keep firing at the end. The last couple of blocks are cracked and break faster, so a crowd that looks too small can still finish the job. Do not let go of the screen until the castle falls.

If you lose with only a block or two left, the So close card shows how much of the castle you broke. You can retry, upgrade first, or watch an optional video to continue (once per level).

Save boosts for the hard ones

Before a level you can pick a boost: Start GIANT, +20 percent crowd, Lucky box or Rainbow start. You can buy them with coins, and they also turn up in daily rewards and the free box that opens every 2 hours.

Boosts help most on the levels that are hardest to win:

  • HARD levels (5, 15, 25 and so on) have a tougher castle and more enemies.
  • Boss levels (10, 20, 30 and so on) end with the Jelly King or the Mega Worm guarding the castle. A rainbow or giant start makes the first big fight much easier.

On easy levels, play without boosts and keep them for when you need them.

FAQ

What is the fastest way to grow a big crowd?

Steer the whole stream into the better gate every time, take multipliers when your crowd is already big, and avoid halving and minus gates. Upgrading Start crowd also gives you more bears from the first second.

Is there a limit to how big the crowd can get?

Yes. A crowd can hold at most 999 bears in one level. Beyond that, new bears are not added, so colour matching and upgrades matter more than sheer size.

Which upgrade should I buy first?

All three help. A simple rule is to buy a small upgrade after most wins and keep the three roughly level, because each upgrade costs a little more than the last one.

What should I do when I keep losing a level?

Spend your coins on upgrades, try a boost like Rainbow start, and plan your colour before the first gate. You can also watch an optional video to continue once per level.
