Gummy Mob color gates: how to pick the right colour
Read the road ahead, switch your whole crowd to the right colour and watch the candy castle crumble.

In this guide
In Gummy Mob, a colour gate turns your whole crowd red, green, yellow or orange. Bears that match the colour of an enemy or a castle block deal 3 times the damage, so the right colour can matter more than a few extra bears. Look at the castle and the enemies first, then pick the gate that matches most of what is ahead.
Most gates in Gummy Mob are about numbers. A x2 gate doubles your crowd, a +20 gate adds bears, and the halving and minus gates take them away. Gummy Mob color gates are different. They do not change how many bears you have. They change what your bears are good at.
This guide explains how the colour system works, how it grows from 2 colours to 4 as you level up, and a simple routine for choosing the right gate in the split second you get on the candy road.
How colour gates work
Your crowd always has one colour at a time. When the stream of bears runs through a colour gate, every bear in the crowd switches to that colour: red, green, yellow or orange.
Colour matters because of one rule: a bear that matches the colour of what it hits deals 3 times the damage. That goes for jelly enemies on the road and for the candy blocks in the castle at the end of the level. A crowd of 80 matching bears can do the work of a much bigger crowd in the wrong colour.
The castle is usually built from blocks of different colours, so no single colour matches everything. Your job is to pick the colour that matches the most of what you still have to break.

How the number of colours grows
The colour game gets richer as you play:
- Levels 1 to 5 use 2 colours. It is easy to see which one is right.
- From level 6 a third colour joins the castle. The game shows a short "Third colour" card when it arrives.
- From level 16 all 4 colours are in play, and the choice really starts to matter.
More colours means a one-colour crowd matches less of the castle at once, so the game eases the difficulty a little when each new colour arrives. Even so, these are the levels where good colour choices pay off most.
A 4-step routine for every colour gate
You only have a moment before the crowd reaches a gate pair. Use the same routine every time and it soon becomes automatic.
- Look at the castle first. As soon as the level starts, glance at the top of the screen. Which colour do you see most in the castle blocks?
- Check the enemies on the road. Jelly cubes, worms and other enemies have colours too. If a big enemy is close, matching it may matter more right now than the castle far away.
- Compare with your current colour. If your crowd already matches most of what is ahead, a number gate (x2 or +N) on the other side is usually the better pick.
- Steer early. Drag the stream towards your chosen gate before you reach it. A crowd that is split between two gates ends up half one colour and half the other side's effect.
If you are not sure, pick the colour that matches the castle. Enemies come and go, but every level ends at the castle.
Colour gate or multiplier?
Often the two gates in a pair are a colour gate and a number gate. Here is a simple way to think about it:
- Small crowd, wrong colour: take the multiplier. You need bears before colour can help.
- Big crowd, wrong colour: take the colour gate. A big crowd that matches will break blocks quickly.
- Already the right colour: take the number gate, unless it is a halving or minus gate.
- Boss ahead: match the boss. On level 10 the Jelly King guards the castle, and a matching crowd chips away its health much faster.

Our crowd runner tips cover the number gates in more detail, including when a +N gate beats a x2 gate.
Power-ups that change the colour rules
Two things on the road can make colour less important for a while:
- Rainbow. Rolling over the rainbow power-up makes every colour match for a few seconds. It is the perfect moment to hit the castle or a tough enemy.
- Rainbow start. Before a level you can pick a Rainbow start boost, so every colour matches for the first seconds of the run.
Other pickups work against you. A sour lemon makes your bears tiny and weak for a moment, and ice slows down how fast you fire. Mystery boxes can go either way: good or bad, there is only one way to find out.

Common colour mistakes
A few habits cost a lot of bears:
- Chasing every colour gate. Switching back and forth wastes gates you could have used to grow. Pick a colour for the castle and stick with it unless an enemy forces a change.
- Ignoring the castle until the end. By the time the castle is close, the last gates are behind you. Plan from the first second.
- Splitting the stream. Steer firmly into one gate. Half a crowd in each gate rarely helps.
- Forgetting about traps. A colour gate placed next to a halving gate can be a trap pair. Count what you lose, not only what you gain.
If you play with a younger child, colour matching is a nice thing to talk about together. Our guide for parents, is Gummy Mob safe for kids, explains how ads, purchases and data work in the game.
FAQ
What colours are there in Gummy Mob?
There are four crowd colours: red, green, yellow and orange. Levels 1 to 5 use 2 of them, levels 6 to 15 use 3, and from level 16 all 4 colours are in play.
How much stronger are matching bears?
A bear that matches the colour of an enemy or a castle block deals 3 times the damage of a bear in a different colour. That is why a smaller matching crowd can beat a bigger crowd in the wrong colour.
Does a colour gate change the number of bears?
No. A colour gate only switches every bear in your crowd to the new colour. The number stays the same, so number gates are still how you grow the crowd.
What does the rainbow power-up do?
For a few seconds every colour counts as a match, so all your bears deal full matching damage. You can find it on the road or start a level with the Rainbow start boost.
